Challenges of auditory learning style12/17/2023 ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() In many cases, parents took on teacher assistant duties in addition to their parenting roles. Complicating this move was the speed with which decisions were made leaving little time for teachers to retrieve instructional materials and prepare to deliver instruction online, educational audiologists to gather RM HAT systems from school and distribute to students for home use, and students to prepare for the online learning environment. The move from the classroom to remote online learning during COVID-19 created both predictable and unpredictable challenges as well as some unexpected benefits. Remote microphone (RM) hearing assistive technology (HAT) is a common accommodation for students with auditory access needs to connect them with their teachers, classmates, and media. Student needs, instructional content and delivery method, room acoustics, lighting, and learning management strategies used by the teacher are basic considerations when deciding accommodations for students to access their education. Each learning environment has unique communication access considerations. Deaf and hard of hearing students are served through a variety of placements from general education classrooms in local neighborhood schools to schools that serve special populations including the deaf. ![]()
